Ambiente faced an exciting challenge with the design of the arrival hall at Billund Airport. The goal was to create a space that was not only functional but also captured the essence of Danish culture and spirit. Colours were carefully selected and strategically used to create the right mood and flow through the space. Green, organic shapes and natural wood elements were integrated to soften the hard surfaces and create a welcoming atmosphere. At the same time, care was taken to avoid an overwhelming colour palette to ensure visitors were neither distracted nor confused.

The implementation of challenging constructions
One of the biggest challenges of the project was the construction of the round benches and tubular runners with lean-to boards and game boards. These structures, made of round steel, required careful planning and precise execution to ensure correct assembly and functionality. By dividing the long elements into smaller segments and carefully coordinating the process, the installation was successfully completed. Despite the technical challenges, Ambiente succeeded in delivering an impressive and functional arrival hall that creates a welcoming atmosphere for the approximately four million travellers who pass through Billund Airport’s arrival hall every year.

Fusion of aesthetics and function
The final result was a beautiful and innovative design that combined aesthetics with functionality, highlighting Denmark’s spirit of hospitality and curiosity. Using symbols such as rune stones, windmills and references to Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales, Ambiente managed to create an authentic experience of Danish culture and traditions.
