An 18th Century Setting Shaped into a Contemporary Home for Design and Living Today
Ferm Living’s new showroom and headquarters is located in Kuglegaarden at Holmen in Copenhagen, a historic building dating back to 1771. Ambiente assisted with the realisation of the interior through extensive, custom-built solutions integrated into the existing structure. The result is a calm and architectural setting where Ferm Living’s contemporary collection unfolds within a historic frame.

A Historic Framework Shaping a Contemporary Home
Ambiente assisted Ferm Living with the realisation of their new 450 m² boutique, showroom and headquarters in Kuglegaarden at Holmen. The building, originally constructed as a warehouse for naval cannons, carries a strong historical presence that forms a striking contrast to Ferm Living’s contemporary universe. Carefully renovated by Mogens de Linde, the structure preserves its original character while allowing new architectural elements to be integrated with respect and precision. The historic surroundings add depth and authenticity, creating a layered spatial experience where past and present meet naturally.
Built Architecture Rather Than Decoration
This was not a project defined by surface treatments or furniture placement. Instead, Ambiente delivered a series of architectural interventions that shape the interior from within. More than ten curved and straight walls were constructed to define zones, create sightlines and support a natural flow through the space. Two large handmade fireplaces function as sculptural focal points, while exclusive handmade bricks add texture and material richness. The interior also includes a substantial counter with a marble-look finish and a six-metre-long custom-dyed kitchen featuring oak cabinetry, Corian worktops and a bespoke patinated copper tap. Every element was developed, produced and installed specifically for the space, ensuring coherence and long-term durability.
Materiality, Flow and a Working Brand Home
Natural materials, muted tones and carefully controlled lighting create a calm and welcoming atmosphere that allows Ferm Living’s collection to remain the focal point. Open areas transition into more intimate settings, encouraging slow movement and exploration rather than traditional retail circulation. The completed space functions both as a showroom and a working headquarters, supporting daily operations while offering a strong platform for presenting collections to partners, press and visitors. The project demonstrates how historic architecture and contemporary craftsmanship can be brought together in a balanced and purposeful environment — a new home for Ferm Living rooted in material understanding and spatial clarity.
