From sterile to soulful: the glasögonmäster experience

My name is Fredrik Andersson, I’m a licensed optician and the owner of Glasögonmäster.
It’s a family business that my father started in 1967, and this is where we are today.

Our previous shop was built in 2007, so it had been with us for quite a few years.
Many people thought it was very beautiful and pleasant in every way.
But we felt it was a bit sterile. There was a small barrier between us and our customers.

We wanted to create a completely new atmosphere – an entirely new store – where our customers could have a different experience without feeling intimidated. We wanted them to feel at home when they came to us.

The first contact actually took place in Gothenburg, where we sat down and had a talk.
We decided to go for it and follow this direction all the way through.
Eventually, Ambiente came to visit us, and together we developed a moodboard. Suddenly it felt like the only right thing to do, and we’re very happy that we took that step.

The collaboration with Ambiente went really well and smoothly, even though it happened in the middle of a pandemic and despite the fact that we’re quite far apart geographically.

In the new shop, we’ve opened up the space and gained much more room.
It’s become more welcoming and a bit warmer, you could say – we’re now closer to both our customers and our colleagues as we work.

One really great thing that we’ve succeeded with in the new shop is our counter area, which creates a space where both customers and staff naturally gather together.
It simply creates a more open and inviting environment.

Our goal was for everyone who comes here to feel almost at home.
It should feel like visiting someone’s home – you should feel embraced, and it should be a comfortable and pleasant environment, quite simply.
And I truly think we’ve succeeded very well with that.
