Verdo's goal was to create a welcoming, modern and functional canteen with a focus on flow and many daily guests. In addition, there was a strong desire to use the canteen's square meters actively throughout the day as a supplement to the current meeting rooms. The result was a total renovation of both the premises and the furniture, where a flexible layout now supports multiple purposes.
Specially designed benches on wheels with built-in acoustic surfaces and new Troldtekt ceilings create the framework for good acoustics in the room. The specially designed benches function both as seating and as room dividers and help create cozy little zones in an otherwise large room. The combination of low and high seating creates dynamics in the space and all tables and chairs can be moved around as needed to realize different events and arrangements in the canteen. The lunch flow is carefully thought out and maintained along the long side of the building, guiding guests from the lunch dishes to the integrated water station and finally to the integrated waste and cleaning solution.
A focal point in the design of Verdo's canteen was to integrate the new canteen design as a natural part of the existing architecture. Therefore, the color and material palette was carefully selected based on the building design to create cohesion and credibility. Natural materials such as oak and linoleum were combined with durable, deep red textiles and black contrasts. Shades of green and green plants help to create atmosphere in the space.
Verdo's green personality was an important element in the design of their new canteen. At Ambiente, we always strive to produce and select furniture and interiors with a long lifespan and the least possible impact on the environment. In this case, we also made an active environmental decision and produced all custom-made furniture in FSC-certified material.
